The Farmer - Tom Lander
Tom came to work at Home Farm with his father Tim in 2013. After a year of getting to grips with the how the farm worked they started to discuss diversification and after some careful consideration, Tom decided he wanted to start an Organic Goat dairy, focusing on milk and cheese production. With the farm having spare barns and the ‘old’ Jersey milking parlour, these buildings were transformed to house and milk the goats. Tom started with 11 goats and has built up the herd to the position where there are now 70 goats. Tom attended Hartpury College during this time and qualified with a diploma in agriculture. He is also a member of the Specialist Cheese Makers Association and holds the Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Manufacturing with the British Safety Council. Tom’s natural care for animals quickly became clear and the goats have been a great addition to the farm.
